My oldest niece was playing my Mario Part 2 on the Wii U "Wii mode VC" and normally when she or both her and my youngest play....The game let's them have it even on easy but when I add a few words of wisdom or ask if they need help...things go good mostly....Also they love the Bowser world map....its chaotix and can really screw you every once in a while.
This time when she was playing she picked Princess Peach since either I or the youngest use Peach so she gave her a try and took on Donkey Kong, Wario, and Yoshi.
Now while I helped her figure out where to go so she can reach the 1st Toad to get a star the game had a store that forces you to buy an item so she had to go all the way back around missing a star and the item she had I helped her use it...She was about to be near the spot where she can steal a star form a persons since Donkey Kong found one at pure random....This game is all about Random and Luck...the item made them switch places but luck was on her side, She got upset but ended up finding a random star and I cheered her up saying "See! never give up and good things will happen" over the course of the game she found another random star and got annoyed that the CPU's would target her and steal all her coins since she had the most and two stars and Donkey Kong was on a mission to get more or the same amount then her and I would ask if she need help on the complex games or when a Dual game pops up wagering their coins so she can get the star.
It started to become clear to me why she was so driven to get these stars and get worried when the cpu would get a coin or win a game thinking she is about to lose them....
They often get screwed by the AI in the game....And not to help but when I played I often get all the luck and steal the show even if they take my coins out of anger and aim to take a star just to ruin my luck...
So seeing that the game is in her hands as long as the game does not screw her...She was going all in and was getting happy and I would boost her ego saying "You got this! You won this"
So seeing the game end with her with the most stars and coins the game tallies up the points and rewards stars for doing things.....oh dear lord...
They gave Yoshi a star for something I dont fully understand...Called the "Happening star"...Must be for triggering things....So they draw out who the winner is but calls them a "Super Star" and place your char fighting bowser koopa and saving the day....As the game was getting ready to unveil who the super star was,
I kept saying "It's you, You got this" and she was saying "It's Peach! She is the super star"....It was Yoshi...one extra bonus star placed him in 1st knocking her down to 2nd...I did not even have to look at her...The silence was a dead giveaway...She was hurt....
I too was a bit down for her, She tired to be strong and start to accept that the game is just over and she lost....As she was about to leave my room and head to bed...I dont know why this happen this way but I am glad it did...
As she was leaving I said "I still can't believe Yoshi won the game" than I some how sneezing out this speech.
I said "You worked your butt off for this and I dont care what the game says, You won, You are the real super star and I dont care what the rules say"
The way her face lit up and she smiled and thanked me.....
It felt good to cheer her up and remove that cloud of dout.....And next time I think I better turn bonus stars off
